Blog Post #2: Arguments Based on Emotion (Pathos)
For our class on 1/18, read the chapter on Arguments Based on Emotion (Pathos). Then, look for arguments that use emotional appeals-- some examples may include slogans, sales pitches, visual ads, arguments from news and entertainment shows, films, brochures, magazines, Web sites, street protests, and so on. Post the example of your choosing to your blog (including visuals, if you have any), and respond to the following questions: What specific emotions do your example(s) appeal? How do the makers of the arguments try to connect with their target audience? (Due 1/18)
Blog Post #1: Introduction
For your first blog post assignment, make an introductory post to introduce yourself and your blog. Remember that anyone can stumble on your blog; by making an introductory post, you will be making it clear to your audience what your text is about and who the writer is. You can use some of the prompts for introducing yourself on the first day of classes (see the prompts below). Do not copy these questions; rather, write a coherent paragraph about yourself/your blog that will include your answers to the questions. (Due 1/18)
Writing prompts:
*Tell us about yourself. What is your name?
*What is your major (if you have declared)? What are your reasons for choosing it (what would you like to do with your degree, etc)? (Optionally, you can also tell your readers about where you are from and anything you would like to add about yourself--something interesting, unique, like a hobby, etc.)
*Why have you created this blog (for our course, etc)? What would you like to accomplish or what do you expect to accomplish in this course?
P.S. All blog post assignments are due by the beginning of the class period on the due date stated.
